Students have the opportunity to travel overseas to experience different cultures. These trips have proven a great success in strengthening cross cultural ties in our students.

German Exchange Program
Patterson River SC has a long standing relationship with Realschule, Lorch a secondary school in a German town just outside of Stuttgart. Every year the students have the opportunity to travel to Germany to participate in a cultural exchange or host a student from Realschule.
Students who travel to Germany get the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and heritage of the country by visiting towns and places of interest as well as experiencing a school program and homestay with a student from Lorch. Many students choose the option of hosting an exchange student and make them welcome in their homes. It is an enjoyable experience to show an international visitor a slice of Australian life, particularly our outdoor lifestyle by the sea, as Lorch is over 500km from a beach!
Both travelling to Germany and hosting an exchange student are enjoyable and rewarding experiences that allow students and their families to make memories and friends that will last a lifetime.
Patterson River SC has been participating in the Kokoda Experience for over 5 years. The experience takes students beyond Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. The trek begins in the village of Kokoda, stops in Kagi where the group is involved in traditional village activities before returning to the infamous Kokoda Track. It isn’t the history of the “Kokoda Campaign’ only that is learnt, but the resilience and achievement that can be attained through personal commitment and group morale! Success permeates all on the sight of ‘Ower’s Corner’.
