Dear Parents and Guardians,

With Technology becoming a bigger part of our everyday lives and the use of computers across all industries in the workplace we have taken the step in allowing students the use of their own computers in the classroom at Patterson River Secondary College. This not only gives students a platform to work from a computer that they are comfortable and familiar with but also with the use of our Virtual Computing system, a virtual desktop will be published to all devices making the user experience identical across all computer types.

In 2015 we launched our Virtual Desktop Interface (VDI) to allow for students to connect BYO Devices to the college network. On any given day we have over 1500 devices connecting to the school network. This includes laptops, tablets, phones and ipads.

In 2015 we formally targeted Year 7 and Year 9 groups. The take up has been extensive and beyond expectations. For 2016 the students currently in Year 8 will be expected to BYO Device for Year 9 in 2016.

The following is a list of options for bringing devices from home into the school:

OPTION 1

Students bring an existing device from home that meets our specifications (as listed below).

OPTION 2

Parents buy computer through finance arrangements directly from a company.

OPTION 3

Parent purchases new device from one of the identified vendors outright.

Purchasing options

The Department of Education Training has a list of authorised suppliers for computers and hardware to schools, these are reputable companies that have been tested and approved by DET. The College has no formal relationship with these vendors and receive no financial benefit if you choose to purchase from these vendors.
