At Patterson River Secondary College we see Art and artistic expression as an integral part of a fully rounded education.  The Visual Arts Domain entails a broad range of artistic approaches, all providing an opportunity to develop holistic creative and critical thinking skills that they will utilise in all aspects of society.

Year 7 and 8

Visual Arts at the junior level focuses on ensuring every student has a solid grounding in all components of the subject.  At Year 7 this includes an emphasis on the Art Elements and the introduction of a variety of materials and basic techniques.  Year 8 sees this material and technique focus enhanced on throughout an investigation into significant historical movements and an exploration of the Art Principles.  This approach has seen students enter the next phase of their schooling with a keen interest in the Arts, as well as being able to ‘think outside the box’ when tackling a range of different issues.

Year 9 and 10

In Years 9 and 10, a multitude of artistic opportunities arise in the form of elective subjects.  Each elective enables students to further their creative skills and artistic knowledge, focusing on an area that is more to their preference.  Year 9 subjects focus on developing basic skills introduced in previous years, while Year 10 sees the emphasis move to introducing more advanced abilities and techniques.
