Patterson River Secondary College has a thriving dance program dedicated to developing students who are technically trained and equipped with performance skills to succeed in VCE Dance and/or tertiary dance studies. The dance course is committed to ensuring that students have the opportunity to develop strong dance technique, learn a variety of styles and refine performance skills whilst receiving the training at the highest standard.
Students undertake classes during school hours but can also attend after-hours training at the College to further enhance their skills and abilities. Students also learn about the theoretical aspects of dance; anatomy and body awareness, the study and analysis of several dance works as well as having an understanding of the choreographic processes used to create dance works.
Classes place a strong emphasis on the techniques of Contemporary dance with inclusions of Commercial Jazz, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop. Students work with teachers and industry professionals throughout the year.
Students will perform each year at assemblies, mid-year showcase and end of year showcase where they display their learnt dance works to family, friends, members of the College and the wider community.
Our Dance Studio is purpose built to suit the delivery of dance with full length mirrors, three portable mirrors, separate charge rooms, 2 professional rehearsal spaces and dance equipment including Pilate mats, foam rollers, stretch blocks, Therabands, balance boards, ipod docks and much more.
